Write 5 Minutes a Day And Change Your Life …

… or at least enjoy it a hell of a lot better.

I have known about, and preached about daily writing, for as long as I’ve been a coach.

If you want to keep on doing same thing, and create the same results, then keep doing that.

When Tim Gunn, a fashion guru, is approached by strangers and asked what he thinks of their outfit, he borrows “… a line from Lucy Ricardo in the show called, ‘Lucy Tells The Truth” where the wearer is sporting a hideous hat, and Lucy responds, “Well, if that’s the look you want, you sure have a good one!”

As your coach I’m here to say: “If that’s the life you want, you sure have a good one!” But is it? Daily writing and daily habits will change your life. Plain and simple. What I like about this system is it focuses on: gratitude, gentle “betters,” and simple appreciation – a Buddhist bedrock to happiness.

I’m here to confess (while I do have my own daily check in sheets – which work great) I tried to hack my a version of The Five Minute Journal (a somewhat pricy $22 bound book meant to help you look on the bright side of life) I failed miserably and broke down and bought the actual book.

So, how to combat that our brains like to keep to the sheep paths of Usual and Normal and Safe? How do you change your brain, and create an amazing life? Buy this book and write in it. Do it for a month.

What I love about using this journal: it’s elegant, it makes my daily writing feel a lot more loving. It’s got useful prompts (daily) plus it’s not just the journal, it has the science behind why you should write for 5 minutes, daily (and it takes a lot less than 5 minutes).

Here’s the thing I notice: when I follow the suggestions for creating positive change in my life … it works.

These practices have literally rewired my habits: I look for the positive, I actively check myself when I become Dull Dishwater Downer, and I really do enjoy life a LOT more.

All from a little writing.

So, give it a shot. What have you got to lose? (and I don’t make a penny)
