Be Here Now (even though your brain is so damn noisy)

“There are many fine things which you mean to do some day, under what you think will be more favorable circumstances. But the only time that is yours is the present.”

– Grenville Kleiser

Someone that Anne Lamott quotes, a Jesuit Priest I used to know, would say, “Left Foot, Right Foot, Breathe.” Kind of the mini version of “Just for Today.” Now for some of us “left foot” may not be walking … but the point is from the land of 12 step philosophy (all of these quotes) also comes just “doing the next right thing” … this one often get’s me through the present moment (when my brain is smacking me upside my head, from the inside, and it’s an ugly thought attack party).
Another trick: if you don’t know what to get done (and you’re not going to get to your goals sheet today) take the next thing on your desk (or on a to do list) and just do it. Often we have to step out of the thing we’re doing in order to get moving (or stopping, in my case) in order to create movement. Project stalled? Take some time away from it and do another thing right now. Try it. Let me know how it works!

Here’s my point: the secret to coaching (yourself) is to find the next right thing and DO it. For me it was literally lying in bed for a while after I woke up, this moment it’s hoping my share will assist you, next it’s COFFEE!

Don’t wait for a miracle to happen, MAKE it happen; maybe today’s miracle is just making coffee, looking out the window, and picking the next right thing to do.

What will you do today to further your life or someone else’s?
